As I am reading this I am mentally going ‘✅’ but emotionally going ‘😬’ because I go through my process so innately I must be forgetting something by now, 45 years later.
When I was in 5th grade I did a paper on all 4 Brontës and the teacher was sure I plagiarized. I used flash cards to keep tabs on each book, capturing quotes and ideas, then formed my thesis statement and away we go… It’s actually quite pleasant a journey when done in an organized way. Yet no teacher ever outlined it like this for me, for us!
How wonderful of you to share this! It takes the mystery out of it all, and frankly would be good brush up for any of us Substack writers.
It takes the mystery out and replaces it with magic, something you know all about! My hope is that teachers, students, and parents discover the magic, too. The magic is giving ourselves permission to discover our own writing process. Thanks for your kind words.
Omg—then what the heck am I writing? 🤭
